Hummus Repeats Itself

Hummus is one of the most popular food products to emerge from the Mediterranean region. Hummus is an exotic blend of pureed chickpeas, lemon, sesame tahini, oil, and spices with added flavors such as roasted garlic, roasted red peppers, scallion and dill.

Hummus (pronounced Hum-es) is traditionally used as a dip with pita bread, crackers or fresh cut veggies. Many people use hummus as a spread on sandwiches (instead of high cholesterol mayonnaise), as a topping on broiled fish

or chicken, on baked potatoes instead of sour cream, or as the main ingredient in a vegetarian sandwich.

Hummus contains no saturated fat or cholesterol and is high in protein and fiber. Unlike many foods that are good for you, hummus also tastes great. It is a perfect food for anyone who is concerned about eating well or who is on a low cholesterol diet and doesn't want to sacrifice flavor.

The Hummus story:
400 BC Plato and Socrates write about the benefits of hummus in their diets.
1200 AD Mediterranean countries list hummus as a staple.
1910 Waves of immigrants bring hummus to America.
1981 Regional brands of hummus appear in supermarkets in the United States.
1993 Tribe of Two Sheiks Hummus is born in Boston with four flavors. Within months, it becomes a national favorite.
1994 Tribe of Two Sheiks rockets to the #1 brand in America.
1995 - 2005 Tribe of Two Sheiks continues to grow in popularity across America while introducing many new flavors and styles of hummus.
2006 Tribe hummus is reformulated and becomes “All Natural.” In conjunction with the new All Natural formulation, the hummus now undergoes a pasteurization process. “Tribe of Two Sheiks” is renamed “Tribe Hummus.”

At Tribe Hummus, we were the first to add a variety of exciting ingredients such as Roasted Garlic, Roasted Red Peppers, and Cracked Chili that helped to take the product from an ethnic item to a mainstream offering.
